One Paranoid Mom

When RJ had her first ride on the carnival, I was the one nervous. Since I heard about the accidents in Enchanted Kingdom, I never stopped thinking about the freak accidents in amusement rides. But no childhood would ever be complete without the amusement rides so I allowed RJ to experience it but I evaluated her first on what to expect on each ride.

Carnival Ride

one weekend at Story Land SM Fairview

Until now before she gets on any ride, I look closely if it might be an injury risk. If not, then I let her get into the ride but I read first the warning signs and follow carefully all the posted rules. We may have no control on the ride itself but we have control over which ones we allow our children to ride. I also instruct RJ to keep her arms and legs inside the ride or hold onto handrails if there’s any and always tell her to remain seated until the ride comes to complete stop. I am one paranoid Mom that keeps on reiterating these instructions every time we visit amusement parks. I think it is better that way than to be sorry in the end.

How about you, do you allow your child to get in a ride on amusement parks or carnivals?

My Child Got Hurt in School

I was upset when RJ got hurt in school before summer vacation. She came home crying with bruised knees. I know it was an accident. What made me upset was, it happened on the waiting area which is supposed to be a “no playing zone”. There were students playing tag who mistaken RJ as one of their playmates and pushed her so she stumbled on the ground. Good thing she managed to hold her head up. If not, then it would be a nightmare for me. There were two adults (school’s security) present who were supposed to restrain the kids from playing there but they didn’t say a word. If it happened in the playing area, then I would understand. What made me more upset was no one helped my daughter.

My Child Got Hurt

The following day, I sent a complaint letter to the principal stating my disappointment. I entrusted my only child with them but I have proven that they cannot guarantee her safety. I understand that it is impossible for the teachers or other school personnel to pay attention to all students in one moment but they should at least put corresponding signage on designated areas such as “no playing zone” on areas where the students are not allowed to play. Guess what? I didn’t hear a word nor receive a reply from the principal. My child got hurt in school but seem like she is nonchalant about the whole thing. Did we get a lawyer? No, we did not but if such accident will happen again in school, then we will be forced to get a lawyer if that’s the only way for the people that are responsible to be held accountable. School cases are difficult but with a lawyer that has handled matters like this, we might be able to substantiate some negligence on the part of school.

Natural Weight Loss for RJ

RJ asked me if she can have her hair rebonded just like mine. Lol! My baby is now beauty conscious because of Mommy’s influence. She doesn’t even wanted to be called fat anymore. I am wondering what my reaction would be if she asks me one day if she can take weight loss pills. Would I allow her if she reaches the right age? Maybe it will depend on how fat she will be or may be not at all. How to lose weight has been my problem for years. I want to take weight loss pills myself but I am afraid of the side effects. I have tried drinking diet tea though and the side effects that I have experienced are abdominal pain, rectal pain and sometimes nausea.

Different weight loss pills have different ingredients so their side effects varies. Adipex side effects are different from HCG and so on and so forth. There are pills that cause cramps in the stomach, sore breasts, sick feeling from time to time that you have mistaken them for pregnancy symptoms. There are also diet pills that can cause constipation, anorexia and palpitation. It would be helpful to know the side effects before taking them to help you prepare or prevent some of the bad effects if not totally eliminate them.

I do not want RJ to experience those so I would encourage her to go for the natural weight loss which are diet and exercise if ever she will gain so much weight in the future.

Separation Anxiety Isn’t Just for Kids

Summer vacation is over. Just a week to go and RJ will be back to school again. She is very excited to see her friends, to meet her new teachers, to learn and gain knowledge. She is excited while I am having this emptiness. Time flies really fast and I hate it. It was just yesterday when RJ went to school on her diapers. She hasn’t had separation anxiety that’s filled with tantrums and tears but she asked me to wait for her outside the room because she was afraid somehow. Now that she will be a fourth grader, she looks so excited to be out and away from home the whole day. I will be left alone in the house and I think I am the one having the separation anxiety now. Lol!

What more when she has to go to college and stay in dormitory? I know it’s too early to worry about things like that but I cannot help myself from thinking about it. There are times I do not want that day to come. Oh, don’t get me wrong. My dream for RJ is to make a great living doing what she love. I would be happy to help her find the best degree so she would qualify on one of those highly competitive careers. It is just that I am not prepared yet for that. How can I alleviate the emptiness and longing? There are many ways. I just hope blogging is one of those ways.

Yes, separation anxiety isn’t just for kids. Parents feel that too when their children goes to school or will be away from home for a very long time.

My Favorite “Me” Time

Mommies also need a little sanity-saving “me” time. When you are stressed and burnt out you have a shorter fuse and you easily get irked and “me” time is what keeping you cool-headed most of the time. It does not have to be luxurious. In fact, a simple foot spa can keep you sane for the rest of the week. Foot Spa is my favorite “me” time (second to good sleep) maybe because it is the least expensive that pampers and relaxes me.

Sometimes you feel guilty to leave kids at home while you are pampering yourself. You feel uneasy and worry too much as to how and what the kids are doing while you are away. To lessen your worries, guilt and all, schedule your Mommy time on Weekends when your husband or someone older in the house could watch the kids for you. Isn’t it nice to be back home revitalized, more relaxed and calmer?
