Starting the Year Right: Beating Post-Holiday Blues

beating post-holiday bluesIt’s time to get back to the hustle and bustle of reality. With all the celebrating during the holidays, it’s easy to suddenly feel blah when everyone gets back to their own routines. Instead of moping around and being sad that the holidays have ended, you can start looking ahead and planning your year so that your next holidays will be more fun and enjoyable. When the mind is busy, it will not have much room to think about the post-holiday blues. Here are three R’s that you can do to make sure that you have a better year ahead of you:

Review – examine what the past year was like for you. What achievements are you particularly proud of? What set-backs did you face that held you back from doing what you are supposed to? What things could you have done better? You can do this review in specific areas of your life. Think about your personal concerns, your family needs, your financial status, and your health condition.

Resolve – think about the things that you want to change in your life. Make a set of resolutions to guide you through the year. These resolutions should be realistic and achievable. It might be difficult to make these changes in your life, but they are not entirely impossible. If you want, you can have time-bound resolutions such as resolving to engage in a fitness activity regularly to reach your weight loss goal by the middle of the year. You can also resolve to let go of bad habits.

Refocus – channel your energies to the things that you want to achieve this year. As with most moms, you surely would have a lot on your plate. Efficient time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking will allow you to breeze through the year without hitches that you cannot deftly survive. If need be, schedule some time to calm your mind and body so that you can face the tasks that you need to accomplish with renewed vim and focus.
