Keeping Them Busy

The annual holiday is that time of the year when the whole family can drop their responsibilities, stresses and grudges with one another, and head off to a place of serenity and some well-timed relationship bonding. If, like many other families, you are the proud owner of a cat, holiday season can pose a bit of a conundrum with what to do with your pet.

Finding the best solution for your pet when you’re going on holiday can be done by taking certain aspects into consideration. Making your pet feel at home even when he isn’t will be achieved if the person who’s going to look after him loves pets and most importantly has had the chance to meet the animal at least once before you leave.

Cats tend to be fussier and their trust is harder to gain therefore they are first on the list. Seeking attention only when desired means that the person in charge has to be patient. Taking them too far away from the place they live at will make them feel home sick and try to escape in an attempt to return to where they belong. Another trick which might distract felines is bringing their toys along with them. Cat scratching posts and climbers will trigger their playful mood and days tend to go by faster when having a good time.

Puppies make the situation even more difficult, because they crave attention 24 hours a day/7 days a week. At such a young age all they think about is playing and running around. Keeping a young dog entertained may turn out to be trickier than you thought. In such cases, toys which have fun shapes and produce squeaky noises can keep a puppy in awe for a couple of days. Another secret would be to hide some of the toys, so that the fluffy critter forgets about them and when you give the objects back, he discovers them all over again. Kong Dog Toys have a wide range of products to choose from.

By the time they reach maturity, dogs tend to get highly attached to their owners. When they are separated from the ones they are devoted to, canines might feel very lonely and abandoned. Therefore looking for a substitute while you are away on holiday is important.

In addition to this, buying toys which require use of their intelligence will keep them busy and physically active. They won’t have time to be bored and miss you. Dog agility toys can be ordered on the Viovet online pet store.

  1. I think it’s easier to care for the cats than dogs. Dogs are like little toddlers, they want playtime and attention. Cats are more like teenagers (or an old aunt), moody most of the times hahaha.

  2. We used to have pets like cat and dog but the cat never come back, he is a wild cat but we feed him. While the dog we have to give her to the animal shelter as my daughter has severe allergic to a dog. One day when she is not allergic, we will get another pet as both of my kids are pet lovers 🙂

  3. believe it or not and i’m sure you are aware of this too, that there are hotels for pets available these days where owner can leave their pets while they’re on vacation. how cool is that? hehhehe

  4. I thought it’s you photo. that cat in the bag is a camera whore. my husband’s friend has a cat too and every time they go somewhere they ask my husband to come by their house and feed the cat

  5. Mommy I can relate to leaving a pet because we have two chickens and one dog. Our dog Spink girl has been with us for 6 years and we had to move to a new town where we can’t take our pets in our newly rented duplex. We are just glad though that we didn’t have to sell our old house and she can still stay in our yard being taken cared of by our neighbors whom our dog is used to. Everytime we come home like every 2 or 3 weeks, you can just hear and feel the happiness that the dog feels to see us back. She would not leave our site after that. She just wanted to be with us, and when it is time for us to go back into our new place again, she knows we are about to leave and would just sit and quite. It breaks my heart we can’t take her, but still happy she is doing fine. She is well taken cared of and well-fed. It is not easy having pets as well when it comes to moving. WE miss them and we can’t wait to go back in one week. 🙂

  6. We should also learned to take good care and give attention to our pets. They also have life to respect and to understand their needs.

  7. toys for pets are very important for them be it for playtime or health benefits. good to know there are products like these for our beloved pets.

  8. that photo cracked me up! haha. I remember when we were kids, we always have a dog around and it goes with us wherever we go. Pets are really intelligent and we have to tend to that…

  9. No pets at all is easy answer haha. It is difficult to ave pets and finding someone to leave it behind is quite a challenge. We have hamsters and I think it is as far as we can have as pet. No dog, no cats. I love animals but I hate looking after them. Your tips are very helpful though and I’m sure pet owners out there will appreciate this post.
