Fire is one of the most destructive accidents that could happen inside one’s house basically because it could just easily wipe out your hard earned fortune in just minutes. Worst thing that could even happen is when it would end the precious lives of your family.

Among your family members, the kids are the most curious ones and they not matter how strict the parents in implementing rules of safety, they carry within themselves a hefty amount of interest in almost everything.

When it comes to fire incidents, it has been noted that most of it were started by curious kids and the incidents usually rises during holiday seasons wherein all sorts of fireworks are available.

Sometimes kids can’t be too serious when it comes to rules and there is no way they can comprehend complex ones. That’s why, when it comes to fire safety rules, make it as simple as possible and easy to remember. Below are easy to remember fire safety tips for kids.

1. Utilize Role Modeling – kids look up to their parents and they usually mimic what they’re doing. If parents want their children to follow safety rules, they should live to it as well. In short, do not play fire in front of them. If they would be to see that you’re enjoying it, most probably they would think it’s some of the fun thing to do.

2. Introduce the fire kits – let them familiarize what’s inside the bag. Fire protection online first aid kits can be presented while they’re in front of their laptops or similar gadgets. Present everything and demonstrate how it works.

3. Give Visual Examples – make it clear to them that fire is dangerous. You can burn something in front of them and let them imagine it’s their skin and show them how much damage it could cost. Actual demonstrations can retain better compared to purely words of lecture.

4. Return Demonstration – “Stop, drop and roll” is one of the basic moves during fire incidents. For them to remember it fully, do actual demonstration and let them do it as well. It’s important that you would be able to know that they’re doing it right.

  1. kids should be aware of the fire hazard at the young age. here in the US, The fire fighters starts their demonstration as early as kids start head start/nursery school.

  2. I need this tip to show to my kids! Thanks for the heads up! This is really important because kids these days are very curious and clumsy. As a parent, we have to be watchful all the time and educate our kids that fire is dangerous!

  3. I forgot about the blankets and rolling….kids won’t listen to “it’s dangerous” unless they see it, so a clip but not the bloody ones can make them understand what harm fire can give…

  4. Playing with fire is very dangerous 🙁 I have a niece that burned her half body when she was 7 years old because they were playing with fire 🙁 I was working that time at the hospital. When I get home, I feel so devastated 🙁 She is now 19 years old 🙂 My kids knows that fire is very dangerous. I always tell them what to do and where to go when there is a fire, hope they remember the tips that I teach them.

  5. Fire is really destructive and at a young age, fire safety must be taught. When our DD1 started pre-school at age 4, they have some fire drills too and visited fire stations 🙂

  6. this reminds me of my daughter who at the time when she got burned was 2 years old. we had to stay at the burn center for the entire week, the worst thing is that i have to leave her alone in the hospital because i had to take care of my other child at home while husband is at work. it was the painful experienced we had. she got burned from the portable heater 🙁

  8. That’s why it is very important that we parents are very careful in setting out anything at home that would cause fire. Candles for instance, if we can avoid having them, we should! Also, it would be great also if we remind our househelp if we have one.

  9. It is a good idea to teach children at the early age and introduce them to precautions like in this case ‘fire’ so as early as possibly they know what’s safe and what is not. .

  10. the only thing that i can do is watch my kids closely and make sure nothing is burning on the top stove. =) right now, this toddler in the house is too young to learn all that. even though u educate them.. they will still do it anyhow
