Cycling can be a fun event for the entire family. If you have a small toddler, you will need to choose a child carrier or trailer for your bike. Some tips can help you make a good choice.

The Differences between Child Carrier and Trailer

A child carrier attaches to the bicycle behind or in front of the rider making it easy to transport a child. A trailer is attached behind the bicycle to transport small children. Both trailer and carrier offer some protection for riding with children. However, to make either option safer, it is better to have the occupants wear helmets. A bike towing a trailer will be more visible to passing vehicles, and it will stand alone when you get off the bike. If the bike falls, a carrier will fall as well. Therefore, when deciding between a carrier and a trailer, you should look at the safety features of both before choosing one.

Trailers can usually carry children that weigh up to 100 pounds. Some models will be large enough to carry more than one child. Trailers will transport children up to six years of age. They are a stable means of transportation.

A front mounted carrier allows the child to see the area better, and it offers a smoother ride for the child.

A child carrier can usually hold children that weigh no more than 50 pounds. Therefore, the child’s weight will be a factor in choosing between a carrier or a trailer. A toddler will need to be able to sit up in the bike seat since the carrier will support the toddler’s head and shoulders while riding.

Types of Carriers

You will need to decide between a rear mounted or front mounted carrier. A front mounted carrier allows the child to see the area better, and it offers a smoother ride for the child. You will have more access to the child during the ride, which offers you the opportunity to keep a check on his or her condition. By using a front mounted carrier, you can attach a rear basket to carry needed supplies. However, the weight limit is less for the front mounted carrier than for a rear mounted carrier. In addition, all bicycles are not compatible with a front mounted carrier. A rear mounted carrier offers higher weight limits, and they are more compatible with more bicycle styles.

Most carriers consist of a harness system that will hold your toddler safely in place when being transported in a carrier. A carrier with a three-point harness system will be a good choice for securing your toddler to your bicycle.

Trailers for Transporting Toddlers

Trailers are a good choice to use to safely take your toddler along for the ride. They offer some safety features to protect the children. For instance, you can find trailers with cover flaps that will help protect the children from dust and flying objects. Some trailers are equipped with removable covers to shield the toddlers from the weather. However, a disadvantage of using a trailer is that the child will experience a bumpier ride than with a carrier.

After deciding which child transport attachment is best for you, you should have no problem finding either type at a Melbourne bicycle store.

Choosing clothes for kids should be done with thoughtful consideration. As a parent who wants to inculcate respect for Mother Earth in your kids, you should lead by example and patronize products that are not only earth friendly but also protects the health of your children. While some parents go for fashionable and branded clothing for kids, there are actually eco-friendly clothing for kids that are both stylish and are made with organic materials.

Clothing made from pure organic cotton, soft sustainable bamboo or a combination of both these materials is a wonderful choice for your fashion conscious kids. These fibers are grown and harvested without using any genetic modification, chemical pesticides and fertilizers. You can be sure that your kids clothing are pure products and is safe from residual chemicals that are usually left on fibers. Conventional methods of farming use toxic chemicals which cause skin allergies and irritations in kids. It also harms the environment as these chemicals contaminate the soil and the ground water underneath. Aside from cotton, bamboo also produces biodegradable fibers for kid-friendly clothing. Growing bamboo for clothing is earth friendly because it quickly regenerates itself and helps prevent soil erosion.

Organic cotton is also a very comfortable material used for kid’s clothing. It is soft and breathable thus perfect for active kids to wear for those hot sunny days. Similar with bamboo, it is also durable and easy to care for. Organic clothing for kids are best for kids who have sensitive skin and have allergies. Bamboo clothing is considered hypoallergenic and it has anti-bacterial properties that keeps it clean smelling for long. It is also great for warm weather with its moisture wicking abilities and for cold weather as it provides warmth when used as base layer.

There is no better way of protecting your children’s health and help them develop concern for nature than by patronizing eco-friendly products and clothing that they will use. Organic clothing can be stylish yet comfortably wearable. These clothing usually have fun designs and colors which are nature-inspired. They encourage your kids to think more about the environment and make them responsible in protecting resources, energy conservation and make them more connected with nature.

When you are a real shutterbug and you cannot stop yourself from whipping out your camera or your phone at family gatherings, you will find that you are going to get quite tired of the same old stand, smile and snap poses! When you want something more interesting for your photos, consider taking a look at some of these fantastic photo ideas. Remember that taking photos allows you to capture an experience, and that this is something that you can remember for years.

Line everyone up, have them turn to
one side and smile at the camera!

Stacking

There has been a recent trend for adorable family photos that involve stacking the members themselves. Essentially, the largest, tallest member of the photo group lies on their stomach on the ground, and the next largest person lies on top of them. The smallest person climbs on top and stretches out as well. Remember to avoid this for family members who have physical issues like sore backs or sprains. Line everyone up, have them turn to one side and smile at the camera!

Re-enactment

This is a perfect opportunity for your family members who are film buffs. Ask them to think about their favourite movie, and then see if you can get a shot of them re-enacting the scene. Maybe they have always been fond of Indiana Jones, or perhaps your grandmother and grandfather want to reenact the last scene for Casablanca. Photos are all about getting people to loosen up and have fun, and this is what this exercise allows them to do.

Time Lapse

This is a photo set that takes literally years of patience, but the end result can be quite interesting. Go through your photos and find some old pictures of your family members when they were much younger. Then see if you can get them to recreate the picture wearing clothes that were really similar to what they were wearing when they were young. This becomes especially hilarious when older people recreate scenes from early childhood.

Hiding Out

This is a fantastic way to incorporate a game of hide and seek with your loved ones. Essentially, you are the one that is it, and when you find them, you can take a picture of them in their hiding place. This forces your loved ones to get creative and to really think about where they are hiding and where they want to be found!

Napping

This series of photos can help you get rid of that irritating thing where half of the people in the picture are blinking. Take a moment to pose everyone in a pile and tell them to close their eyes. A group shot of your loved ones napping together can be quite adorable, especially if you mix the children with the adults!

When you want to take a great picture of your family, take a moment to consider what your options might be. Click here for a number of fantastic poses for you to try and laughs to be had. Look for the poses that make you think of your loved ones.

Parents who love having pets around them would definitely want their children to have their own pets soon enough. But before getting them something to take care of, you should consider their age and the appropriateness of the pet you have in mind for them. You have to realize that having pets can be both helpful and dangerous, so here are some tips when choosing pets for kids according to their age.

At age four to five, children are slowly
learning to be responsible and empathize
with other people and animals.

Pets and Babies

Babies as we know cannot take care of themselves, thus getting a pet for this stage should be well considered. If you already have a family pet around, it would be wise to introduce your new baby to your pet. Take note of their interaction, as some pets can become anxious around babies. If it turns out okay, gradually increase the time you spend with your pet. Your pet may occasionally lick your baby in its hand or feet so just make sure that your baby’s hand is clean.

Pets and Toddlers

Toddlers usually are clumsy, curious and very mischievous. They will pull animal fur, tail and limbs. They can be bold and ride your dogs or cats. If you intend to get a pet for them at this age, teach them to pay safely with the animals. Some can handle rough play and stay docile around small children, but some can also become angry and aggressive. Choose breeds that are known to be well-behaved around children and make sure that your kid does not play with your pet foods, dishes or litter box.

Pets and Young Children

At age four to five, children are slowly learning to be responsible and empathize with other people and animals. You can get them a guinea pig at this age or a goldfish because they also have attention spans. Small pets for kids such as these two do not require a lot of effort. You can start teaching them how to take care of their pets like cleaning cages and toys, feeding and refilling water bowls.

Pets and Teens

Teenagers are usually ready for more difficult to handle pets for kids. They are more responsible and are willing to take on more tasks. You can get them an active or sporty dog breed that they can take around for walking, running and playing outdoors. You can rely that kids this age can do things correctly so they should be able to feed, clean and exercise their pets regularly. Allow them to join in pet training classes which can be a good learning experience for them as well.

Do your weekday mornings often lead to stressful situations, frustration, unnecessary conflicts and arguments with your kids? Many parents often “lose it” and end up having a really bad start in the morning because of issues that kids may brought up. By taking these parenting tips, you can reduce these problems, lessen stress and help your family work together as an efficient team in the morning.

As parent, you should also know the most important
issues to address with your children and what are the
small stuffs that can be discussed in another time.

Take note of your situation and see what really goes wrong in your mornings. Knowing the root cause of the problem is crucial in determining what needs to be changed or stopped to improve your morning routine. Observe the things that go well and those that don’t. Also, notice your reactions and your emotional state and note when and where the meltdown starts. It is also a good parenting tip for you to ask your spouse and kids about their opinion and experiences to help you decide which must be changed to meet everyone’s needs.

Prepare for possible “hindrances” to limit disruption and plan you changes for 10 minutes the night before and extra more minutes to get ready in the morning. Recognize the value of organization and getting things ready the night before. Be sure to check their assignments, lay out their clothes, and prepare lunch and that their bags are packed and ready for school. Wake up a bit earlier than your usual time and wake your kids 10 minutes earlier so that they will not feel rushed or frantic. Talk to your kids about what they think constitute a “good breakfast” and prepare the things that needed in the kitchen the night before.

As parent, you should also know the most important issues to address with your children and what are the small stuffs that can be discussed in another time. Ask yourself if it’s worth the argument or is it the best time to discuss the issue before diving into it. If it doesn’t concern safety and if it’s a minor thing, tell your child that you will discuss the matter in the evening when you are all thinking clearly and calmly. Taking your time to think about an issue will help reduce your stress and give you more time to organize your thoughts.

Another parenting tip to help you during these stressful times is to develop and take advantage of some strategies that will help you stay calm and collected during stressful mornings. If you feel like you’re close to “losing it,” do some breathing exercise, meditate and or simply take a few moments in a quiet place and away from the chaos. Once you feel calmer, you can better tackle these crazy mornings!

When the winter season rolls around, you are much more likely to catch a cold or flu. You are inside more and surrounded by a lot of people. Being sick does not just make you feel lousy; it’s also inconvenient. Having to take off a couple of days of work due to illness just makes you fall behind. That is why you have to do everything you can to avoid getting sick this winter.

If you have to be around someone who is sick,
remember to wash your hands a lot.

Here are five ways to avoid getting sick in the winter.

Wash Your Hands Often

One of the best ways to avoid getting sick is to wash your hands often. Make sure to wash your hands after you use the bathroom and before you eat something. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water for at least 20 seconds. If you make a habit of washing your hands often, you are much less likely to catch the cold or flu.

Get a Flu Shot

It is a smart idea to get a flu shot every year. Getting this vaccine is especially important if you are pregnant, over the age of 65 or have a chronic health condition. The flu shot doesn’t cost much money and only takes a few seconds.

Don’t Cough Or Sneeze Into Your Hands

If you are like a lot of people, you probably cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Unfortunately, doing this will only put the germs on your hands, making you more vulnerable to catching the cold or flu. Instead, sneeze or cough into your arm. If you sneeze into your arm, you will not spread the germs to other people.

Start Exercising

One of the easiest ways to avoid sickness is to exercise regularly. Exercising doesn’t just speed up your metabolism and boost your mood; it also improves your immune system. Don’t be afraid to walk or jog outside when it is cold. If you wear the appropriate clothes, the cold will not bother you while you are working out. There are also plenty of exercises you can do in your living room including lunges, squats, crunches and pushups.

Get Plenty of Rest

If you want to avoid getting sick, you have to get enough rest. When you don’t get the amount of sleep you need, your body doesn’t have a chance to recuperate, which will make your immune system weaker. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep each night.

If you follow these helpful tips, you are much less likely to get sick this winter and you might be able to avoid taking strong cough syrup. Try to stay away from friends and family members who are sick. If you have to be around someone who is sick, remember to wash your hands a lot.

Kids are adventurous, they are rowdy and they tend to act on things before they think about the outcome. Kids makes mistakes and they hurt people and so are parents. When parents make mistakes or do something wrong, especially to their children, they too should apologize.

Learning to apologize to your kids also teaches them essential life lessons that will mold their personality as they grow.

Do You Apologize to Your Kids?

Some parents think that apologizing to kids for something that they did wrong only shows their weakness and exposes their imperfections as parents. Some believe that being totally transparent with children can help bring about a clear understanding of reality. These two approaches communicate a lesson and should have their place according what parents think they should apply.

Before you set forth and apologize, you have to realize that an apology is not an acceptance of shame, self-loathing or blame. An apology is about the recognition of the fact that “to err is human.” You apologize when you acknowledge that you have hurt someone accidentally or intentionally. You apologize to show compassion, to make amends, to learn and to grow.

Apologizing to Kids Teaches Them

Parents are not only the one who make rules that kids bend and break, parents are also role models that their children look up to. Learning to apologize to your kids also communicates with them essential life lessons that will mold their personality as they grow.

Apologizing to kids shows your humility, the importance of acknowledging your mistakes and being responsible to your shortcomings. It teaches kids what compassion and forgiveness means. Parents effectively communicate the feeling of being forgiven and forgiving to repair injured feelings. Being able to say you are sorry depicts a realistic outlook of relationships – the ups and downs and everything else.

Come to terms with your imperfections and let your child know. Let them learn that relationship repairs involve being human, making mistakes and acknowledging them and learning life’s lessons. So, when you find yourself in the wrong, don’t hesitate to apologize to your kids. Apologizing to kids does not only draw you closer together, you also learn to value your relationship and work around these imperfections to make your family ties even stronger.

Next generation cleaning technologies like robotic vacuum cleaners make life a lot easier for you. You will find that with the right types of products, your home can look cleaner and brighter than ever before. What’s more, these types of technologies focus on ease of use and energy efficiency. Shopping for these types of machines can sometimes be difficult, but there are some tips that you can make use of.

The right types of machines can make your life
a lot easier and help to improve the energy
efficiency of your entire home.

Know the Price and Shop Around

Knowing the price for the type of machine and cleaning technology you want is going to help you save ultimately. For instance, if you want a washing machine, you should definitely know what its base price is going to be so that you know how much you should be paying for it. From that point on, you are going to be able to tell which type of store to buy the machine from and what you need to know when it comes to making the final purchase.

Another thing that you should consider doing would be to shop around and compare prices. You might find that one store is overpricing one of their cleaning machines while another one has it on sale. Take advantage of sales, discounts and specials going on in certain stores. This is going to help you save a lot of money in the long run while still allowing you to buy exactly what you want.

Look for Energy Efficiency

One thing that is very popular nowadays would be energy efficient machines. You might notice that using this type of machine is going to help you in terms of saving on electricity each month. This is why it is a good idea to compare electrical wattage from one machine to the next. Look for things that are either battery-powered or run on a charge. You will notice that these are ultimately a lot cheaper to run than anything that you would keep plugged in all the time.

Consider Buying Machines and Products Used

If you are making plans to buy a very large machines or cleaning technology, you might want to think of ways that you can save money on it. Obviously there is nothing quite like buying a brand new machine right from the manufacturer, but buying a machine used can also be beneficial to you and your wallet. Many used machines also work just as well as anything new you would buy from an actual store. You should definitely take a close look at where you are buying the machine from so that you know you are going to be getting one that is ideal for your needs.

The right types of machines can make your life a lot easier and help to improve the energy efficiency of your entire home. Because of this, it really does pay off to look for things that are going to fit your needs well and help you to save a lot of money in the process.

It is so convenient for parents nowadays just to let their kids sit in front of their computer or television screens to give them something to do. Child studies and researches have found that this is detrimental to the child’s development. There are other more worthwhile games for kids that they can engage in for fun and entertainment. These games would depend on the age of the children. Of course, it would be a lot better if parents also take part in the activities.

Educational board games like Scrabble might be a great game for learning new words, but they can also be boring for younger kids. You can actually modify the rules to make it more interesting for your little ones. This game can teach your kids both reading and math skills.

Other games that have been around for a long time like dominoes, pickup sticks, and barrel of monkeys are also fun games for kids that parents can also enjoy. Your children’s motor skills will be developed through these games. A game of charades or Pictionary can also stimulate creativity. Just like Scrabble, however, you have to scale these games down to a level that your kids can successfully manage. Not knowing what the words are or having difficulties drawing their clues could make the games frustrating for young ones.

More active alternatives help improve your child’s physical development. You can actually engage in a sport that both you and your child love. A father and son tandem can throw some hoops or go out to the football field to practice their tosses and tackles. Playing team games is also a great way for bigger families to share quality bonding time. A game of tag in the backyard is also a fun and simple way for kids and parents to get some exercise.

There are also games for kids that you can play on the road. Singing games and guessing games are great for keeping your kids from getting bored during longer road trips. Play a game of movie trivia by thinking of famous lines and having your kids guess the character who said those lines and the movie where it was taken from. Take your cues from your children. Be creative and be ready to switch things up to keep them interested. Active minds and bodies will have less time for mischief or tantrums.
