Welcome New Year the APIR Way

We are supporting Department of Health (DOH) campaign against firecrackers so we are not going to buy any firecracker this new year. DOH just launched its campaign called “APIR” which stands for Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction and distributed a CD recording of the sounds of various firecrackers and  fireworks which according to them is the safest fireckracker in the world.

Why waste your money in firecrackers  when there are other safe ways to welcome the new year? You can make sound by using torotot or horns. A new horn that need not be blown is the safest for your kids. The kids just need  to pump it to make sound. Its shape is somewhat similar to that of insect spray which also reminds me of the pentair pool pumps.

Since Christmas eve, DOH reported a number of firecracker victims. It is alarming  that most of them are kids…either they were injured or ingested toxic firecrackers. As parents, it is our duty and responsibility to watch our kids. Do not give them money so they cannot buy any firecracker. But if your child ingested “watusi or picolo” have him/her drink 6-7 egg whites and rush him/her to the nearest hospital.

So to be spared from injuries, welcome New Year the APIR way.

When Mom is Sick

When Mom is sick what happens to the household? When Mom is sick, everything is in chaos. Cold cuts for meals, a mound  of laundry, messy rooms, etc. I am not underestimating Dads when it comes to household chores but let us face it they cannot maintain the household like Moms do.

A flu hit me sometime last week and I had no choice but to take a rest. Though hubby is very good in taking care of me while I am sick, he is not very good in maintaining the house. He can’t cook decent meals so we ended up eating cold cuts. And since he can’t file leave because he still needed to tackle so many things in the office before the year ends, our dirty clothes piled up. He just brought them to the nearby commecial laundry which of course I was not contented with the results. Haiist! These made me got back to regular Mommy life sooner than I should.

As soon as I got back on my feet, I cleaned our 40 square meter house and it took me two days. What if not only flu hit me but something more serious? What would happen to our little house? I think hubby should learn to cook and it is about time to let RJ do some easy chores like washing the dishes.

Spread Love and Share Your Blessings in Mindanao

I am back online after several days of being sick. A flu badly hit me. I was down with cough, cold, sore throat, muscle pains and headache. I thought I wouldn’t make it before Christmas but after consulting the doctor and having the chance to see those pretty nurses in their stylish nursing uniforms again, I am now back to work.

It was hard to be down with flu. Every inch of me hurt but what made me feel bad more are these scenes from the news…the victims of typhoon “Sendong” (Washi) that were devastated by rampaging flood waters in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. These are truly heartbraking scenes.

Everyone was caught by a surprise while they were on deep sleep. Some managed to climb on their roofs and survived but it was too late for many residents most especially the children. They got drowned in the muddy flood. It is the worst flood in Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro.

As of today 957 are reported dead, 47 are still missing and hundreds are injured. Those who survived are now on the evacuation center and some were trying to fix what is left of their homes.

You and me are still lucky to be able to celebrate Christmas with our families in the comfort of our homes. I hope we can spread love and share some of our blessings this holiday season. Let us help the victims of “Sendong” in Mindanao.
