RJ in Blue

Most people like the shade of blue. Well, not my RJ. As I have mentioned on my Mommy Moments post last week, her favorite color is pink that’s why I had a hard time looking for her pictures in blue., the reason for my quite late post. After exerting much effort, I found these two pictures.

This one was taken when she was 5 months old.
She can’t complain yet so I was able to buy this blue dress.

I think this one was taken 2 years ago.
I was watching her while she was walking.
I can’t believe that my baby is a big girl now.
The shirt and shorts were gifts from my sister.

Why do most people love the shades of  blue? May be because it is soothing, like the blue sky and the ocean. It has such a calming effect on people, contrast to its language of sadness and sickness. Blue, like other colors, has language. The following are the language of blue:

•    true blue- someone loyal and faithful
•    baby blues- blue eyes
•    blue baby- sickly
•    feeling blue-feeling sad or depressed
•    blue ribbon-top prize
•    blue Monday-feeling sad

We are the Best Buddies

”We ‘re the Best of Friends” is the interesting topic today at Couple’s Corner. This is about the couples being the best of friends. Rhonnel and I can relate to this because we are couple and best friends at the same time. Before Rhonnel courted me, we’re “barkadas”. We had fun together because we have the same set of friends and went out in group. We know how each other react on green jokes. He knows how I pig eat and vise versa. We know each others’ strength and we can tolerate each others’ weaknesses. And because we know each other that well, we have no any inhibitions and hidden expectations thus we didn’t have disappointments when we lived under one roof. That’s the advantage of being friends first before going on a serious relationship. You will learn to love the best and worst in a person, along with his or her deepest secrets.

I can proudly say that I am Rhonnel’s best buddy. He can tell directly to me if he wants to go to a beerhouse with his friends and when he gets home he can tell me stories of what happened  that night, how many bottles he had, how beautiful or ugly the girls are and how the girls danced. I am also his confidante. I know all his problems and all his plans, except of course if he wanted to surprise me.

We are each others’ critique too. He tells me frankly if my cooking is bad or praises it if it is good. He tells me if I am fat or if I needed a haircut. He tells me if my fart stinks and vice versa. We learned to love each other more by loving our negative traits.

Our being best buddies is what re-creating that magic in our ten years of marriage. By being couple and best friends at the same time, we maintain a balanced harmonious relationship and hoping to be the same for 65 more years.

Money Saving Alternatives

The reasons why I don’t watch news sometimes are the news about the oil price hike, increase in the electricity and water bills, and the increase on basic commodities. Though there are news that the world economy is getting better, I don’t see improvement in the economy and on my opinion things have gotten worst.  In fact, deflation is still present in the large part of the world.

You need to stretch your budget to survive these problems each day. But how? Money saving tips and alternatives are ways of stretching your budget. You can shrink not only your  electric and water bills but your cell phone bills as well by comparing and choosing the best cell phone plans. 8 out of 10 people overpay for cell phone services and you wouldn’t want to be included in this statistics, would you?

And if you think that getting business credit cards is not applicable nowadays, then you are wrong. It is but right to get credit cards for your emergency needs. As long as you spend within your limits  and you won’t go over board, you won’t encounter any problem in the future. But compare credit cards first before you get one. There are on line services that sort combination of credit card features and benefits that could help you find the best credit cards for your needs.

Because I am a vegetable lover, Pakbet is one of my favorite Filipino dishes. Pakbet is a popular Ilocano dish. The word is the contracted form of the Ilocano word pinakebbet, meaning “shrunk” or “shriveled”. (source) I like it more with bagnet, a deep-fried crunchy pork of Ilocos. But if bagnet is not available, I make my own crunchy pork.

¼ kg. pork with fat
¼ of small squash (peeled and sliced thinly)
5 pcs. okra (cut crosswise)
5 native bitter melons (cut into quarters)
5 native eggplants (cut to quarters)
6 pcs. string beans (cut into 2 inches long)
2 pcs. tomatoes (sliced thinly)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 medium onion (sliced thinly)
small piece of ginger (sliced thinly)
2 tbsps. shrimp paste
cooking oil
3/4 cup water
In pan heat oil then fry the pork until crunchy. Remove pork then set aside. On the same pan, saute onion, garlic and ginger until golden brown. Add tomatoes. Add shrimp paste. Then add in all the vegetables and water. Cook until the vegetables are done, careful not to overcook. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add crunchy pork on top.
